What's Stopping Our Scroll

Here are the social media posts that are stopping our scroll this week.

Two HVAC Lessons New Homeowners May Not Know

So, I bought my first house here on the East Coast almost five years ago now, and it was a new-construction home. I assumed there was nothing to do with my HVAC unit except, you know, change the filters.

No one ever told me that, even with a brand-new HVAC system, I was supposed to have regular maintenance done. I also had no idea that closing vents puts extra strain on an HVAC system. I've closed vents in parts of the house, like closets or spare bedrooms, that I didn't want to heat or cool.

So, these videos stopped my scroll because, if I didn't know these things, then surely other newer homeowners don't know these things either. A simple picture explaining this on social media might catch someone's attention, but videos are more likely to catch attention. So, consider creating videos like these for your home services business.

Guin Service's Ask a Tech Series

So, this is a post from Guin Service, a Superpath client, and this is actually their third entry in the Ask a Tech series of videos answering common homeowner questions.

Again, it's another great example of simpler content that captures attention, educates, builds goodwill with homeowners, and helps establish Guin as a trusted expert in their field.

Don't feel like you need to be a video professional to get started with content like this. Simply making the attempt puts you ahead of most home service companies.

What Does “Mogging” Mean?

So, this is definitely a different type of educational content, but it made me laugh because, as a 39-year-old, I have no idea what mogging means. I had to Google it. They never answered what it is in the video itself either.

So, consider this a public service announcement for anyone over maybe 30. According to Google, mogging means to outshine, outclass, or look physically superior to someone else.

Now you can completely embarrass your kids by casually telling them you were mogging all the other HVAC techs at work today. I have no idea if I used that right.

ACHR News HVAC Contractor Forum

Don't miss the ACHR News HVAC Contractor Forum event on November 2nd through the 4th at the Omni Frisco Star in Frisco, Texas.

This isn't a large-scale convention. Attendance is limited, and the boutique hotel setting in Frisco's entertainment district offers space for focused conversations and meaningful connections.

This is also held in tandem with the Air Conditioning Contractors of America's Smart Tech Summit, which will further allow you to expand your network and connect with respected contractors from across the country in one cohesive experience.

October PHCP-PVF Price Increases

In other pricing news, Supply House Times has released their October price increase list for the PHCP-PVF industry, noting that it's a relatively quiet month for price increases, with fewer announced than in September.

The highest noted increase comes from Spirax Sarco, with an average 4% increase across their entire portfolio, while Panasonic averages a 3.75% increase, with items not impacted by tariffs remaining unchanged.

Proposed Bill Could Lower the Social Security Age for Qualifying Blue-Collar Workers

If you're nearing 60 and finding blue-collar work a little tougher on your body than you used to, relief might be in sight.

A new bill introduced by Michigan Representative Haley Stevens aims to lower the Social Security age from 67 to 60 for blue-collar workers.

The proposed legislation works off a weighted points system, with those working in a physically demanding job later in life earning more points toward their full retirement benefits at a lower age. Fifteen total points would be required for someone to collect full benefits at age 60.

Neither the House nor the Senate has voted on this bill yet, so stay tuned for more info.

U.S. Solar Capacity Can Now Power More Than 50 Million Homes

The U.S. can now power 50 million American homes from solar power alone, according to the newest U.S. Solar Market Insight report. That's a little more than one-third of all U.S. homes.

In the second quarter of this year alone, 11.4 gigawatts of solar power capacity was added, representing a 45% year-over-year increase. Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Michigan top the list of states responsible for this increase.

Some of the rush in Q2 to build out solar capacity comes from the solar tax credits expiring in July of this year, but the report still projects the U.S. solar market will nearly double over the next five years, due in large part to rising energy demands across the U.S.
